- Business challenge
- As a private chef, one of my biggest challenges is creating enough visibility and opportunities to reach a wider audience beyond my existing clients and social media community. I also want to continue developing my culinary identity and finding more opportunities to experiment with Nigerian ingredients in elevated and contemporary ways.
Eko Flavours would help me overcome these challenges by giving me a platform to showcase my skills, connect with other culinary professionals, gain exposure, and learn from the experience. It would also help me build credibility and open doors to collaborations and opportunities that can take my work beyond private dining.
Ultimately, I want to build a stronger platform for Nigerian cuisine, and I believe Eko Flavours can be an important step in helping me take that vision further.
Culinary journey
My culinary journey began with formal training in food preparation, cookery, food and beverage service, and food safety. I went on to gain experience in professional kitchens and food production before transitioning into private chef services, culinary consulting, and food content creation.
Over the years, my passion has evolved beyond simply cooking. I have become passionate about showcasing Nigerian and African ingredients in creative and elevated ways. Through my cooking and content, I aim to challenge the perception of African cuisine and demonstrate that our familiar ingredients can be transformed into sophisticated, globally appealing culinary experiences.
Today, my goal is to continue developing my craft, telling the story of Nigerian cuisine through food, and ultimately taking Nigerian flavours to a global audience.
Cooking inspiration
My cooking is inspired by Nigerian and African flavours, ingredients, and the endless possibilities of transforming familiar foods into something unexpected. I’m inspired by our rich culinary heritage, but also by the idea of reimagining it through modern techniques, presentation, and creativity.
I love taking everyday ingredients that people are familiar with and showing them in a completely different light. Ultimately, I’m inspired by the belief that there is so much flavour, culture, and creativity within Nigerian cuisine, and I want my cooking to help tell that story to a wider audience.
Signature dish
One of my signature dishes is my elevated plantain and yaji creation. I take familiar Nigerian ingredients and transform them into a fine-dining experience , crispy tostones served on an emulsified yaji sauce, topped with a fresh vegetable salsa and finished with butterfly yaji chicken drumsticks.
The dish represents my cooking philosophy: taking ingredients we know and love and presenting them in unexpected, refined ways without losing their identity. It’s bold, vibrant, playful, and deeply rooted in Nigerian flavour. For me, it’s a perfect example of how African ingredients can be both familiar and sophisticated at the same time.
Why I want to participate
I want to participate because I see this as an opportunity to grow as a chef, challenge myself creatively, and connect with other people who are passionate about food.
I also want to use the platform to showcase the depth and versatility of Nigerian cuisine. I believe our ingredients and flavours deserve a stronger presence on the global culinary stage, and I want to be part of changing that narrative.
Most importantly, I want to learn, create, and share my perspective as a Nigerian chef while continuing my journey of taking Nigerian flavours beyond our borders and onto global tables.
What winning would mean
Winning would mean much more than a personal achievement for me. It would be a validation of the work I’ve been doing to showcase Nigerian cuisine in a fresh, creative, and globally appealing way.
It would give me a bigger platform to tell the story of Nigerian and African food, inspire other young African chefs and creatives, and push the boundaries of how our ingredients are seen and experienced.
For me, winning would be another step towards my bigger vision of taking Nigerian flavours global and proving that our cuisine belongs on every table in the world.
