- Business challenge
- Eko Flavours would help me overcome the challenge of limited access to resources, mentorship, and visibility needed to scale my food business. While I have built Fini_O Foods from a small capital and gained repeat and corporate customers, I still need stronger business knowledge, networks, improved production capacity, and market exposure. Eko Flavours would give me the opportunity to learn from industry experts, connect with other food entrepreneurs, strengthen my brand, and gain the confidence and resources to grow sustainably, create employment, and reach more people with affordable, quality food.
Culinary journey
My culinary journey started while growing, I realised I enjoyed cooking having watched my mom cook irrestible meals for my dad. Afterwards, I got cooking in my undergraduate days, I started a small food business with spaghetti and turkey after my room mates ate my food in our room. I enjoyed the satisfaction on their faces after eating the meals and I decided to create a business for it. I studied Home Economics at the University of Lagos because I wanted to be a professional chef. I left school with a second Class Upper with determination to do well in the food industry. I established my food brand "Fini_O Foods" and it's thriving.
Cooking inspiration
The satisfaction I get when family, friends and random people taste my meals. I feel very accomplished that people get quality for their food.
Signature dish
Ikokore (Water Yam Pottage)
This is my traditional meal from the Ijebu Clan of Ogun dtate. It is specially made from water yam grated paste, palm oil, smoked fish, cayenne pepper, cow hide (ponmo) and my secret ingredient (Ogiri Ijebu). It is most times eaten with eba or alone.
It is rich in vitamins, carbohydrates, fat and oil, minerals, protein etc.
Why I want to participate
I want to participate in the Eko Flavours competition because cooking is more than just a business to me; it is something I genuinely love and a way I connect with people. I started Fini_O Foods with a small amount of money, but with a big dream to make good, hygienic and affordable food accessible to people, especially busy Lagosians.
This competition would give me an opportunity to showcase my creativity, learn from other food entrepreneurs, gain more visibility for my brand, and challenge myself to grow beyond what I currently know. I also want to prove that with passion, consistency and the willingness to start small, a young Nigerian can build something meaningful from their talent.
For me, Eko Flavours is not just about winning a competition. It is about telling my story, representing my brand, learning, and showing what Fini_O Foods can become.
What winning would mean
Winning would mean so much more than receiving a prize. It would be a reminder that the small business I started with limited resources, passion and faith is worth believing in.
It would give me the opportunity to grow Fini_O Foods, improve my equipment and reach more people with food that is fresh, affordable and made with care. More importantly, it would give me confidence and visibility as a young food entrepreneur and open doors to opportunities I may not have been able to access on my own.
For me, winning would be both a reward for how far I have come and a push to dream bigger. It would mean that my little beginning has the potential to become something much bigger.
